Princeton Memory Launches Mainstream PHD-ISM2G4DG Gen 4 NVMe SSD

Princeton Memory has entered the SSD market with its PHD-ISM2G4DG, a mainstream M.2 NVMe Gen 4 drive targeting everyday consumers. The drive ships in 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB capacities, marking the company's push into consumer storage solutions. This DRAMless design suggests Princeton is aiming for cost-conscious buyers who still want next-generation performance.

Performance scales across capacities: the 512 GB model delivers up to 7100 MB/s sequential reads and 4300 MB/s writes, while the larger 1 TB and 2 TB variants maintain the same read speeds but boost writes to 6400 MB/s. The drive uses a Phison E27T series controller paired with 3D TLC NAND flash, a combination that balances performance and reliability for mainstream users. These speeds compete favorably with other Gen 4 options in the same price bracket.

Endurance ratings follow the expected pattern: 160 TBW for 512 GB, 320 TBW for 1 TB, and 640 TBW for 2 TB. Princeton backs all models with 3-year warranties, providing standard consumer protection. The company hasn't revealed pricing details yet, but DRAMless Gen 4 drives typically position themselves as value alternatives to premium offerings from Samsung and WD.
