Phison unveils PCIe Gen 6 controller and DRAMless SSDs at Computex

At Computex 2026 Phison unveiled its X3 series, an eight‑channel SSD controller built on a new foundry node that supports PCIe Gen 6 x4 and NVMe 2.3, including computational storage. Intel supplied development kits, but Phison demonstrated reference drives achieving roughly 28 GB/s sequential throughput—about twice current Gen 5 speeds—and up to 6.8 million 4K IOPS.

The company also introduced the E37T, a DRAM‑less PCIe Gen 5 client controller succeeding the E27T. It delivers up to 14.9 GB/s reads and 13.2 GB/s writes, performance normally reserved for DRAM‑cached parts, and reaches 3 million 4K IOPS. Phison claims the chip draws less than 2.3 W, allowing cooling with just a heat spreader.

Alongside the controllers Phison displayed its Pascari line of enterprise SSDs, all supporting NVMe 2.1 and computational storage. Models include the D201E (1.6‑15.36 TB, up to 14.8 GB/s and 3.3 million IOPS), the X202Z U.2 2‑drive 15 mm Gen 5, and the D250P 9.5 mm offering 480 GB‑3.84 TB. These drives showcase how Phison’s silicon is moving into higher‑capacity data‑center markets.

Doubling sequential bandwidth and delivering DRAM‑less performance at sub‑2.3 W power could reshape client and data‑center SSD design. Vendors may adopt Phison’s X3 for early Gen 6 platforms, while the E37T offers a low‑cost alternative for thin‑client laptops that cannot accommodate active cooling. Pascari’s capacity range signals Phison’s push into enterprise storage tiers.
