Modder Boots Intel's Commercial Bartlett Lake CPU on Z790

An enthusiast has successfully booted Intel's commercial-only Core 9 273PQE "Bartlett Lake" processor on a standard consumer Z790 motherboard, loading Windows 11. Previously, these 12-core, 24-thread chips could only reach the POST stage on such boards. The breakthrough required a BIOS mod to add the necessary microcode and initialization routines the chip lacked for consumer platforms.

This feat proves the physical LGA 1700 socket compatibility was never the issue. The barrier was purely firmware-based, as Intel never intended these pure P-core, non-hybrid "Bartlett Lake" parts for the DIY market. Their design, featuring 12 "Raptor Cove" cores without any E-cores, sidesteps the Thread Director scheduling complexities of Intel's hybrid desktop CPUs, theoretically offering simpler, higher-performance gaming.

The setup remains entirely experimental with no official support. Stability in applications isn't guaranteed, and future motherboard BIOS updates could break the modification. Nonetheless, this demonstrates that the fundamental hardware incompatibility was a myth; the obstacle was a lack of sanctioned firmware, now overcome by a determined modder.
