Lenovo has introduced the ThinkBook 16+ as its first consumer laptop featuring LPCAMM2 memory from Chinese supplier CXMT. The device offers up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X-8533 memory paired with an Intel Core Ultra X7 385H processor and Arc B390 iGPU. This marks a significant shift as PC manufacturers seek alternatives to traditional memory suppliers like SK Hynix, Samsung, and Micron.

LPCAMM2 represents a new memory standard that combines the performance benefits of LPDDR5X with the upgradeability of traditional SODIMM modules. Lenovo previously introduced this technology with the ThinkPad P1 Gen 7 in 2024 but is now expanding it to mainstream consumer devices. The move comes amid severe memory shortages that have forced customers to make purchasing decisions within an hour or even prepay suppliers to secure DRAM.

CXMT's emergence as a viable memory supplier follows its showcase of DDR5-8000 and LPDDR5X-10667 modules at the 2025 China International Semiconductor Expo. The company's growing capabilities have attracted interest from major players beyond Lenovo. Apple is reportedly considering sourcing DRAM from CXMT and NAND Flash from YMTC for its upcoming iPhone 18 series and potentially MacBooks, as traditional suppliers raise prices due to industry shortages. This diversification strategy reflects the increasing pressure on tech giants to secure stable memory supplies while maintaining product pricing.
