According to Mercury Research, Intel's x86 CPU market share fell below 70% for the first time since 1995, hitting 69.3% in Q2 2026, a 6.5-point year-over-year drop. AMD captured the difference, reaching 30.7%, a company record. Mercury Research president Dean Mc Carron confirmed the 31-year low to CRN. These figures cover PC and server CPU shipments only; including semi-custom, embedded, and IoT products pushes Intel to 65.9% versus AMD's 34.1%, boosted by stronger-than-expected gaming console SoC shipments.

By segment, AMD desktop share reached 34.9% (up 2.7 points) against Intel's 65.1%. In servers, AMD grew 7.3 points to 34.5% versus Intel's 65.5%. AMD launched 6th Gen EPYC "Venice" processors with "Zen 6" microarchitecture, while Intel announced upcoming Xeon 7 "Diamond Rapids" CPUs and "Crescent Island" graphics cards. The laptop market saw AMD's largest gain, climbing to 28.9% (up 8.4 points) while Intel held at 71.1%. Overall PC share for AMD hit a record 30.3%, up 6.4 points year over year.
