Grasshopper Manufacture's upcoming action-adventure game Romeo is a Dead Man takes players on a sci-fi journey with FBI Space-Time Police Agent Romeo Stargazer. The studio has released a final trailer showcasing the game's intense action and featuring new music from contributing artists. CEO Goichi Suda and co-director Ren Yamazaki recently discussed the game's development process and how the story evolved during production.

Initially inspired by the classic tale but not directly based on Shakespeare's play, the game follows Romeo's quest through space-time to find his lost girlfriend. The character clicked as soon as they realized Romeo was also DeadMan, with Juliet becoming a more central figure than originally planned. Suda wanted to create a protagonist who was the opposite of his previous violent characters, crafting Romeo as a straightforward, good-natured young man who matures throughout the story.

The game features a strong-style hack-and-slash combat system that balances swordplay with gunplay. Developers paid special attention to creating situations where both combat styles remain viable, with the Bloody Summer system encouraging close-quarters combat through powerful finisher moves. The team made continuous adjustments throughout development to perfect the game's rhythm and difficulty balance, aiming to create an experience that feels smooth yet challenging even on first playthrough.
