Desktop monitor shipments climbed to 133.4 million units in 2025, a 4.3 % rise year‑on‑year, signaling a rebound from pandemic‑era slowdowns. The jump reflects monitors’ shift into high‑value, versatile tools for laptop‑heavy users, with gaming models driving the lift and capturing a growing share of the market.

Gaming monitors alone hit 41 million units, up 50.2 % YoY, accounting for 31.1 % of total desktop shipments. For the eleventh straight quarter, sales surged, topping the highest level seen since Omdia began tracking. These figures outpace conventional monitors, cementing gaming displays as the sector’s primary growth engine.

The surge stems from added value—models above 120 Hz, 0.03 ms response, and expanding screen sizes—meeting gamers’ demand for speed and clarity. OLED and QD‑OLED variants, led by Samsung’s QD‑OLED and LG’s WOLED, push premium tiers, while lower‑price options keep entry‑level gamers engaged.

Industry analysts predict dual‑mode monitors—switching between 4K @ 240 Hz and 1080p @ 480 Hz—will double‑digit grow in 2026, offering future‑proofing for competitive play and cinematic titles. Yet OLED burn‑in risks, high manufacturing costs, and supply chain volatility could curb broader adoption, keeping premium displays a niche segment for a select group of enthusiasts.
