A new survey from the GDC Festival of Gaming reveals 82% of US game workers support unionization, with opposition at just 5%. Younger developers, aged 18-24, show unanimous backing. The findings follow Ubisoft's recent worker strikes in France over restructuring and game cancellations.

Despite growing labor solidarity, game developers are divided on generative AI. While 36% use AI tools daily—more at publishing firms (58%) than studios (30%)—a majority see negative effects. 64% of artists and 59% of programmers believe AI harms the industry, citing concerns over creativity and job security.

Major studios continue focusing on PC and next-gen platforms. Unreal Engine leads with 42% usage, especially among AAA teams, while Unity remains popular with indie devs. Steam Deck ranks fourth in target platforms, with 28% of developers optimizing for it, showing strong interest in handheld gaming's growth.
