Bungie has officially announced the end of Destiny 2 development after years of declining player numbers. The game's concurrent player count has dropped from approximately 26,000 in January 2026 to just under 11,000 in May 2026. Despite occasional spikes reaching over 300,000 players, the steady decline prompted the studio to shift focus.

The final update, Monument of Triumph, scheduled for June 9, 2026, will serve as a "love letter" to players. It includes narrative additions, Director screen rework, new Pantheon with boss challenges, updated Raid and Dungeon loot, and ability reworks for all three classes. The permanent return of Sparrow Racing League is also included.

Following the update, Destiny 2 will remain playable but without seasonal events. Bungie will launch Destiny 2: The Collection, bundling all content packs into a single purchase. This marks Bungie's transition to new projects while leaving its flagship title in a playable but unsupported state.
