Black Flag Resynced Launch Draws Criticism

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced has launched to a mixed reception, despite strong initial sales. The game saw a peak of 99,451 concurrent players on Steam within its first 12 hours. However, player reviews on the platform are currently rated as "Mixed," with only 62% of the 2,778 reviews being positive.

The primary source of player dissatisfaction stems from the game's monetization model. Critics point to over $80 worth of microtransactions and DLC that are prominently featured in the game's menus, affecting both the $59.99 standard and $69.99 Deluxe editions. While some reviews defend the cosmetic microtransactions as harmless in a single-player experience, others argue that certain items, like those offering shorter cooldowns, impact gameplay significantly.

Further controversy surrounds the suspicion that Ubisoft is leveraging Black Flag Resynced to promote its upcoming title, Assassin's Creed Shadows. Despite these issues, many reviews praise the remake's quality, and some publications report stable performance, even on the Steam Deck. Ubisoft has also acknowledged a bug limiting cutscene frame rates to 30 FPS, with a fix planned.
