Arc Raiders Tests New Kernel Anti-Cheat Amid Linux Support Questions

Embark Studios is testing a new kernel-level anti-cheat solution for Arc Raiders, the free-to-play shooter that currently holds a Platinum rating on ProtonDB thanks to its Linux-friendly Easy Anti-Cheat implementation. The studio expects the new system to "sharpen both detection and precision throughout Speranza and the Rust Belt," according to a recent blog post addressing fair play concerns.

The developer already uses machine learning tools and input telemetry alongside its existing kernel-level anti-cheat. Despite these efforts, Steam user reviews continue to complain bitterly about cheaters ruining matches. Embark has also emphasized accessibility, promising to support players using unorthodox hardware and input devices.

When Embark implemented kernel-level anti-cheat in The Finals, it maintained Linux and Steam Deck support. This suggests Arc Raiders may remain playable on Linux devices. However, Apex Legends developer Respawn claimed dropping Linux support resulted in a 33% decline in cheaters, fueling debate about whether Linux is a haven for cheaters.
