AMD GPU Prices Drop 15-20% Amid Cooling Demand

Japanese retailers have slashed prices on AMD's Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9060 XT 16 GB GPUs by up to 15% and 20% respectively, according to data from Gaz:Log. This marks a significant reversal from December 2025, when demand spikes driven by AI data center needs pushed prices up by as much as 40% across the board.

AMD's high-end GPUs with over 8 GB of VRAM had become particularly expensive as AI workloads competed with gamers for hardware. The price drops suggest that demand may finally be cooling after months of shortages and inflated pricing. While this Japanese market data doesn't guarantee similar trends elsewhere, it indicates that hardware pricing could be reaching a tipping point where reduced demand forces retailers to lower prices.

However, relief may be temporary. Both AMD and NVIDIA are reportedly planning to increase MSRPs by at least 10% in early 2026, following a late 2025 price hike of $20-40 on 8 and 16 GB GPUs. This suggests the industry may be shifting toward permanently higher price points rather than returning to pre-AI pricing levels.
