Following a round of layoffs and the cancellation of an in-progress Lord of the Rings MMO, Amazon has officially cancelled active development of both Throne of Liberty and Lost Ark, announcing it would hand off server management to each game's respective dev team. This is Amazon's latest move in a previously revealed shift in strategy away from game development.

Throne of Liberty will be fully in the hands of NCSoft's Western division, FirstSpark Games, and Lost Ark will be handed over to Smilegate. Lost Ark is expected to transition in early 2027, while Throne of Liberty will move over in Q4 2026. Both studios have promised to minimize interruptions.

Player accounts will remain the same for both games. For Throne of Liberty, all account history, premium currency, and even bans will carry over. For Lost Ark, players will lose some in-game content such as mail, friend list memos, guild member nicknames, and chat history, though most progression data transfers. Players can opt out of the transfer.

Smilegate has confirmed that the transition will allow Western players to access content sooner, aiming to align with the Korean cadence. This faster content cycle may introduce new issues but is intended to make raids more exciting by having players tackle challenges simultaneously rather than months later.
