Amazon exits MMO publishing, hands off Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty

Amazon will no longer publish MMOs Lost Ark and Throne and Liberty in the west, according to PC Gamer. Publishing responsibilities will shift to NC (Throne and Liberty from Q4 2026) and Smilegate (Lost Ark in early 2027). Most content like characters and in-game currency should transfer, though some features may not. This follows the planned shutdown of Amazon's own MMO New World: Aeternum on January 31, 2027.

Once these handoffs are complete, Amazon will be out of the MMO business, a venture it entered in 2016 with New World. The company is now focusing on casual games for Luna, its streaming service pitched as a Prime benefit. Outside of bigger IP bets like 007 First Light and Tomb Raider Catalyst, Amazon is concentrating on party games playable on smartphones.
