Sony Pictures has released the full trailer for Zach Cregger's new *Resident Evil* film at SDCC. The franchise, which has grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, attempts a reboot with Cregger, known for the horror hit *Weapons*.

The film follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier on a desperate race for survival during a chaotic, horrifying night. The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson. Cregger stated this film is not a direct game adaptation but an original story within the *Resident Evil* universe, with a tone closer to *Evil Dead II*, yet remaining true to the spirit of the games.

The trailer introduces Bryan as a sympathetic everyman making an urgent delivery to Raccoon City General on a snowy night. He's involved in an accident with a zombie, unaware of the true danger. The town is rapidly overrun, with events unfolding in a matter of hours. *Resident Evil* is set to open in theaters on September 18, 2026.
