The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is marking 25 years of the Fast and Furious franchise with a new exhibit featuring 23 iconic cars from the films. The display includes the Dodge Charger and Toyota Supra from the original 2001 movie, alongside other famous vehicles like the Mitsubishi Eclipse and Honda Civic from the first street race scene.

According to assistant curator Kristin Feay, the exhibit showcases cars with fascinating histories that go beyond typical film props. Many were built and owned by actual tuning shops and enthusiasts before appearing on screen. The Toyota Supra, for instance, was created by Craig Lieberman of Super Street magazine, while other early hero cars came directly from the tuner community.

The exhibit reveals the complex ownership histories of these vehicles, with some cars having multiple incarnations as hero cars, stunt cars, or replicas. The pink Honda S2000, known as Suki's car, actually appeared in several different paint schemes and was owned by Super Street editor RJ DeVera. Lettie's Nissan 240SX, discovered in an orange paint job in someone's yard, represents one of the first SR20DET engine-swapped S14s in the US, making it significant both as a film prop and a tuning milestone.
