OpenAI has launched its first branded hardware device, the $230 Codex Micro, a specialized RGB-lit mini-keyboard developed in a "limited-run collaboration" with Work Louder. The device resembles Work Louder's existing Creator Micro line but adds six frosted keys in the top two rows that provide color-coded live feedback on up to six Codex agent threads, even when not in focus on-screen.

These keys cycle through colors indicating thread status: white for idle, blue when Codex is thinking, green for task completion, amber when human feedback is required, and red for errors. A tap on a lit key brings the corresponding Codex window to the foreground, enabling quick monitoring of continually running AI agents from a desktop setup.

Below the status keys, six programmable buttons handle common Codex actions like accepting changes, branching threads, and push-to-talk for audio prompts. Functions are remappable via software and physically customizable with 32 included keycaps. The first function layer is reserved for Codex, while users can cycle through five additional layers for general computing shortcuts.
