Google is launching Googlebooks, a new line of premium Android-powered laptops, on October 4. Unlike budget Chromebooks, these devices target the high-end market with OLED displays, metal builds, haptic trackpads, and a signature illuminated Glowbar. Google is not manufacturing hardware; instead, partners Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus are producing five models at launch. All feature 16GB RAM (some upgradable to 32GB), fanless designs, and either Snapdragon X Elite or Intel Core Ultra Series 3 (Panther Lake) chips with 45 TOPS NPU performance. Battery life claims reach 14 hours video playback.

The lineup includes the Acer Googlebook 14 ($899) with Intel Core Ultra 5/7, 14-inch 2.8k OLED, and convertible design. The Dell XPS Googlebook ($1,199) uses Snapdragon X Elite in a 13.4-inch machined aluminum chassis. HP Googlebook 14 ($1,299) and Asus Googlebook 14 ($1,299) both offer 14-inch OLEDs with Snapdragon and Intel chips respectively. The Lenovo Googlebook 15 ($1,299) features a 15.3-inch display, magnesium-alloy build, and face authentication.

Pricing starts at $899 but jumps significantly to $1,199 for the next tier, positioning Googlebooks as direct competitors to MacBooks and premium Windows ultraportables rather than budget Chromebooks.
