Google Adds Gmail, Photos to AI Mode for Personal Intelligence

Google is integrating your Gmail and Google Photos into its AI Mode feature, calling it 'Personal Intelligence.' This new capability allows the AI to tailor search results using your personal data, like travel confirmations from emails or event details from photos. The feature is rolling out today to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers as an optional Labs experiment.

Personal Intelligence aims to make AI search more useful by pulling context directly from your account, reducing the need to manually input details in prompts. For example, asking about clothing for an upcoming trip could automatically use location and date data from your inbox. Google notes the feature is opt-in and can be disabled, but it's not available for single queries like in Gemini.

While Google states it doesn't train its models directly on connected emails or photos, the feature represents a deeper push for personalized AI. It follows a broader industry trend where tech giants seek to leverage user data for more contextual services. Free users will likely gain access later, mirroring Google's typical rollout pattern for new AI features.
