Europe's Space Entrepreneur Huby Raises $450M For Nyx Capsule

French entrepreneur Hèlene Huby is gaining prominence as a leading figure in Europe's space sector. This week, she served as an envoy at the International Space Summit convened by President Emmanuel Macron. Her company, The Exploration Company, announced a $450 million Series C funding round, the largest ever for a Europe-based space company and likely the largest ever raised by a female-led company in Europe.

Huby's firm is developing the Nyx spacecraft, a cargo capsule designed for low-Earth orbit logistics. Having spent a decade at industry giants Airbus and Ariane Group, Huby founded The Exploration Company five years ago. The Nyx capsule is currently undergoing NASA safety reviews for a potential cargo mission to the International Space Station as early as November 2028.

Her rise comes amid criticism of Europe's space trajectory, where projects like the Ariane 6 rocket and the IRIS² constellation face criticism for high costs and delays compared to US and Chinese competitors. Huby is viewed as a refreshing voice honestly addressing these challenges and pursuing ambitious goals for European commercial spaceflight.
