eBay and three former executives have agreed to a settlement totaling nearly $56 million over a 2019 cyberstalking and harassment campaign targeting two journalists. The campaign involved bizarre tactics such as delivering live cockroaches, a funeral wreath, and a bloody pig mask to the victims' home. Harassing messages were also sent via email and Twitter, and there was an attempt to install a GPS tracking device on their car.

The victims, Ina and David Steiner of Ecommerce Bytes, filed a lawsuit in 2021. The civil rights settlement includes $55.7 million in compensation and charitable commitments. eBay will pay $46.15 million to the Steiners, with additional compensation from former CEO Devin Wenig, former Senior Vice President Wendy Jones, and former Chief Communications Officer Steve Wymer.

eBay will also donate $6 million to various charities, and Wenig will contribute $1 million to a charity protecting First Amendment rights in Ina Steiner's name. The settlement requires eBay to issue a public statement condemning the actions of the former employees and acknowledging the unprofessional tone in internal communications.
