BMW M3 Touring Takes on Nürburgring 24-Hour Race

BMW is sending a station wagon to one of motorsport's toughest challenges: the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The BMW M3 Touring 24H will compete in the SPX exhibition class, driven by a team including BMW factory drivers Connor De Phillippi and Neil Verhagen. This marks the first time BMW M Motorsport has fielded a wagon in such an event.

BMW M Motorsport head Andreas Roos called the project unprecedented, noting it required exceptional effort from the team. The Nürburgring 24-hour race is notoriously grueling, with competitors battling not just other cars but the legendary 16-mile Nordschleife circuit's unforgiving conditions. While the M3 Touring's final position remains uncertain, it joins an exclusive club of racing wagons.

The most famous racing wagon was the Volvo 850 Estate that competed in the British Touring Car Championship in 1994. That Volvo became a fan favorite despite its unconventional design, though it was replaced the following year after aerodynamic rule changes. The Nürburgring event attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators who camp along the circuit's perimeter, creating a unique motorsport festival atmosphere.
