BP has appointed Ian Tyler as its new chair, effective immediately, following the abrupt departure of Albert Manifold earlier this year. Tyler had served as interim chair since May, taking over after allegations of bullying led to Manifold's ousting. The appointment concludes a three-month search led by Amanda Blanc, BP's senior director, who announced she will step down from the board once a successor is found.

Blanc came under scrutiny for her role in the Manifold appointment last year. Tyler, who previously led Balfour Beatty from 2005 to 2013, stated he will focus on board evolution to support the company's strategic priorities. His tenure includes chairing Grafton and serving as senior independent director at Anglo American.

The transition coincides with the start of Meg O'Neill's tenure as chief executive in April. Tyler had requested Blanc remain, but acknowledged her decision to step aside is timely given the leadership changes.
