The PS5 uses the Real-Time Messaging Protocol (RTMP) for streaming, resolving ingest domains via DNS rather than hardcoding IPs. This DNS resolution creates an opportunity for redirection. By controlling DNS responses, it is possible to intercept the RTMP stream.

The discovery involved analyzing DNS logs to identify that the PS5 resolves 'ingest.global-contribute.live-video.net', which chains down to 'aps30.contribute.live-video.net', the actual RTMP server. The solution requires two main components: dnsmasq and nginx-rtmp. A macOS menu bar app bundles these tools, configuring dnsmasq to redirect Twitch ingest domains to the local LAN address.

This redirects the actual video stream to a Mac running nginx-rtmp, allowing it to be displayed in OBS or similar software without the 60-second timeout limitation seen with YouTube's API checks. The method works because the PS5 validates certificates against trusted CAs, but by redirecting to a local server, certificate validation bypasses are avoided, enabling a stable stream for third-party platforms.
