Aston Villa, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest have been sanctioned by UEFA for violating financial sustainability regulations. All four clubs breached the squad cost rule, while Newcastle also failed to meet football earnings thresholds. The penalties arrive as European football tightens financial oversight across member clubs.

Aston Villa received the largest punishment at €22.5m (£19.4m) with €15m suspended over three years. Chelsea were fined €3m (£2.6m) with €2m suspended, while Nottingham Forest must pay €2.5m (£2.2m). Newcastle faces €6m total - €3m immediate plus €3m for exceeding the 70% squad cost ratio in 2025, with €7m suspended pending future compliance.

UEFA's Club Financial Control Body considered Villa and Chelsea's improving squad cost ratios between 2024-2025 when determining reduced penalties. Both clubs had previous sanctions but demonstrated progress toward meeting settlement agreements. Newcastle acknowledged the breach and committed to full compliance with European financial rules.

These sanctions directly impact next season's European competitions. Aston Villa faces player registration restrictions for the Champions League campaign, potentially limiting squad depth for their European run.
