Shane Lowry's Heartbreak: Lost Cognizant Classic Lead

Irish golfer Shane Lowry suffered a devastating collapse at the Cognizant Classic in Florida, squandering a three-shot lead on the final holes. The 37-year-old hit consecutive tee shots into water hazards on the 16th and 17th holes, resulting in back-to-back double bogeys that cost him the tournament.

Lowry's collapse allowed Colombia's Nico Echavarria to claim victory at 17 under par, while Lowry finished tied for second at 15 under. The heartbreak was compounded by the presence of Lowry's four-year-old daughter Ivy, who had been waiting to celebrate her father's first win in front of her. Lowry had previously won the 2019 Open Championship in front of his eldest daughter Iris.

The Northern Irishman had controlled the tournament throughout the day, building on his overnight lead with birdies at the fifth and ninth holes, an eagle at the 10th, and additional birdies at the 12th and 13th. His 19 under par total appeared insurmountable until the final three holes unraveled. This marks another disappointing finish at the event for Lowry, who also lost leads in 2022 and two years prior.
