World number one Scottie Scheffler is aiming to defend his Claret Jug at The Open, despite admitting frustration over several PGA Tour near-misses this season. Scheffler, who headlines the Genesis Scottish Open, has recorded four runner-up finishes and three additional top-fours since winning The American Express in January.

Despite falling short in his bid for a career Grand Slam at the US Open and finishing second at the Travelers Championship, Scheffler believes he is close to another victory. He acknowledges the fine margins in golf and the emotional rollercoaster of professional play, stating, "It's not a satisfying venture playing professional golf, so try to take the good with the bad."

Scheffler claimed his second major and third career Slam leg with a four-shot victory at The Open last year. He will hand back the trophy next week but is determined to reclaim it, stating, "I'll be fighting like heck to get it back on Sunday."
