Carlos Sainz has signed a multi-year contract extension with Williams, committing to remain with the team through the 2027 Formula 1 season and beyond. The 31-year-old Spaniard's decision comes as something of a surprise given his expressed doubts over his future following a disappointing second season that has failed to match the strong results achieved in 2025.

The announcement follows confirmation that Sainz's teammate Alex Albon also signed a one-year extension, with both drivers' previous contracts set to expire at the end of 2026.

Williams team principal James Vowles praised Sainz's contributions, stating: "From the moment he joined, Carlos' talent behind the steering wheel and dedication back at the factory have been extremely valuable for this project."

Sainz joined Williams in 2025 after leaving Ferrari, where he had established himself as one of the sport's top drivers. Despite a challenging start to the current 2026 season, the team remains committed to their long-term project with both drivers signed through 2027.
