Ryan Fox claimed his maiden major title at The 154th Open with a dramatic final-hole birdie at Royal Birkdale, edging Cameron Young by one stroke. The New Zealander began Sunday two shots behind overnight leader Sam Burns but charged through a congested leaderboard.

Fox had equaled the lowest round in men's major history with a third-round 62. On Sunday, he matched Young at nine under before firing his approach to 12 feet at the par-four 18th and converting the winning birdie. Young had set the clubhouse target with a final-round 64, overcoming a seven-shot deficit. Burns finished third after a 72, while Tommy Fleetwood and Scottie Scheffler shared fourth.

"It's unbelievable," Fox said. "Everything was shaking. I'm not quite sure how I hit it straight." Sky Sports' Dame Laura Davies praised Fox's aggression: "He wasn't scared of losing." Andrew Coltart added: "I've never seen somebody push through the tape as hard." Fox joins Bob Charles and Michael Campbell as New Zealand's only male major champions.
