Rangers have completed the signing of centre-back Olwethu Makhanya from Philadelphia Union in a deal reportedly worth around £3m. The 22-year-old is the club's eighth summer arrival, signing a four-year contract with an option for a further 12 months.

Makhanya, a South Africa international who played 53 times for the MLS club, was a target for Ibrox chiefs this summer. He expressed his excitement about joining a club with "so much history" and fulfilling his "dream to play football in Europe".

Manager Derek McInnes praised Makhanya's attributes, calling him "strong, physical and confident" and expecting him to "make a real impact". Rangers are also reportedly considering Coventry City winger Jahnoah Markelo as they seek attacking options. The club's Scottish Premiership campaign begins on Friday against Dundee United, live on Sky Sports.
