New Atlanta United striker Breel Embolo said he's excited about "a new start in my life," even as people in Europe are "shocked" at his decision to move to MLS.

Atlanta signed Embolo from Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais for a reported fee of $18 million. The move came amid reports that English Premier League side Ipswich Town made a late push to attract the Swiss international.

Embolo has yet to train with the Five Stripes as he awaits his work visa, but has been practicing on his own. "I think a lot of people in Europe, they're a little bit shocked," he said, adding that he wants to show he's not coming to rest.

Embolo scored twice in leading the Swiss to the World Cup quarterfinals, but was sent off against Argentina. The International Football Association Board (IFAB) later confirmed he should not have been sent off. He said the World Cup helped his family get comfortable with moving to the U.S.

Embolo is expected to fill the role of Emmanuel Latte Lath, who was loaned to Union Berlin after scoring just nine goals in 44 league appearances.
