South Africa defender Olwethu Makhanya has completed a move to Rangers, becoming the club's eighth summer acquisition. The 22-year-old centre-back joins from Major League Soccer side Philadelphia Union for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year contract with an option for an additional year.

Makhanya expressed his excitement, stating, "It is honestly a big honour and a huge blessing for me to join such a big club with so much history. I can't wait to get started." He added that playing in Europe has been a lifelong dream.

Having begun his career at Stellenbosch in South Africa, Makhanya earned a call-up to his nation's 2026 World Cup squad due to his strong club performances. Rangers manager Derek McInnes believes Makhanya possesses the necessary athleticism and potential to succeed in Scotland, despite the transition from MLS.
