Home advantage in the Premier League has plummeted to its fifth-lowest level in history, with only 42% of matches won by the home side this season. Just four of the last 21 games have been won by home teams, with Manchester City, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa being the only clubs to secure victories in front of their own fans during this period.

This decline represents a dramatic shift from the 65% home win rate recorded in 1895, with the trend showing a steady decrease of roughly one-third over more than a century. The phenomenon has affected several top clubs, with Tottenham and Chelsea among six teams averaging fewer points per game at home than away. Chelsea has dropped points in eight of their 14 home games this season, including a late 1-1 draw against Burnley.

The decline accelerated during the 2020/21 season when matches were played without fans, causing the away win rate to surpass home wins for the first time in history at 40% to 38%. While factors like improved travel, sports science, and pitch standardization have contributed to this trend, the return of fans hasn't reversed the pattern, suggesting deeper structural changes in the game.
