Cameron Norrie continued his return to form at the Los Cabos Open by beating James Duckworth 6-4 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals. The British No 2 had lost six successive matches before starting his summer hard-court campaign with victory over Aleksandar Kovacevic on Monday.

Norrie lost his first service game to fall 2-0 down but claimed two successive breaks to lead 4-3, closing out the first set. He went up a double break at 5-2 in the second but survived a wobble, needing three match points to finish in just over 90 minutes. Seeded fifth, Norrie is now the second-highest ranked player left after top seed Jiri Lehecka fell to Coleman Wong and Bernard Tomic upset Karen Khachanov. Norrie faces Tomic next.

At the DC Open, Naomi Osaka advanced to the last eight after Ashlyn Krueger retired injured while trailing 6-3 3-1. Krueger received treatment on her right ankle during the first set. Osaka, seeded third and playing her first tournament since Wimbledon, reaches the quarter-finals for a third straight event and will face Elisabetta Cocciaretto.

In other action, Rafael Jodar beat Kei Nishikori to set up a clash with Lorenzo Musetti, while Thursday features Alex de Minaur against 17-year-old Cruz Hewitt, son of former world No 1 Lleyton Hewitt.
