Newcastle United have signed goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek from Braga in a deal worth £25.7m. The 24‑year‑old joins on a five‑year contract after the club met his release clause. He is brought in to be the first‑choice keeper.

Hornicek is a Czech Republic international and becomes Newcastle’s fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba. He describes the move as an emotional rollercoaster, excited for the new league, and praises the warm welcome at the club.
