The Culture, Media, Sport Select Committee, chaired by Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, has called for removing the 3pm TV blackout for women's football to inspire young girls. The Game On report reveals too many barriers prevent girls from participating in sport, with a focus on increasing visibility during traditional football viewing hours.

The 3pm blackout has prevented women's football from being broadcast on Saturday afternoons for 50 years. Committee members argue that when women's sport receives coverage, girls are more likely to feel inspired and motivated to be active. Dame Caroline highlighted that the FA has acknowledged benefits for the women's game from having its own regular broadcast slot.

Beyond broadcasting, the report recommends an inclusive PE curriculum that prioritizes enjoyment and comfort, with better teacher training. The committee also calls for doubling government sport funding from £3.8 billion to £7.6bn over the next decade, alongside removing "No Ball Games" signs to reclaim public spaces for play.
