Moses Itauma faces Filip Hrgovic in risky August heavyweight clash

British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma will risk his unbeaten record against Croatian contender Filip Hrgovic on August 29 at London's O2 Arena. The 21-year-old takes a significant step up in class after demolishing Jermaine Franklin in March to announce his arrival on the world stage.

Itauma's explosive performance against Franklin positioned him for bigger opportunities, though Hrgovic represents a substantial leap in competition. The Croatian, 34, has only lost once - to Daniel Dubois for the IBF interim title in June 2024 - and recently stopped Dave Allen inside three rounds in May.

Hrgovic issued a challenge after beating Allen, stating Itauma "never reached the promised land" and expressing willingness to fight anyone in the division. His confidence stems from recent form and the belief that age and experience favor him against the younger Brit.

A potential future clash with WBO champion Dubois awaits Itauma should Dubois overcome Fabio Wardley in their rematch, adding stakes to this upcoming bout as both fighters jockey for position in the heavyweight hierarchy.
