Miyu Yamashita successfully defended her title at the LPGA Tour's Maybank Championship, holding off China's Yan Liu by two strokes at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. The 25-year-old finished with a 72-hole total of 22-under after a final-round 68, securing her fifth career title and third of the season. Yamashita led from Friday's second round until the final hole, sinking five birdies with just one bogey.
Despite Yan Liu's strong performance, including a 68 on Sunday, she finished at 18-under, two strokes behind. Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and amateur Marisa Tojai tied for third, while Robyn Choi placed fifth. Yamashita emphasized the difficulty of the final round, noting Liu's power and aggressive play.
The victory marks another highlight in Yamashita's stellar season, which also includes wins at the Meijer LPGA Classic and CPKC Women's Open. The LPGA's Asian swing concludes with the Toto Japan Classic.
