France captain Kylian Mbappe has publicly condemned Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla for making racist remarks following France's World Cup round of 16 victory over Paraguay. Mbappe called Amarilla "despicable" and "unworthy of her position," stating she does not represent the passion and honor of Paraguay. He vowed to never allow such hate to spread.

Amarilla's comments were made on X after the match, which France won 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Mbappe, the competition's joint-highest scorer. The French Football Federation (FFF) also issued a strong statement, labeling the remarks "abhorrent and unacceptable." The FFF announced it is referring the matter to the public prosecutor's office for potential legal proceedings and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting racism.

The match itself was physical, with France coach Didier Deschamps suggesting Paraguay employed "every trick in the book." Despite the intensity and multiple scuffles, Paraguay received no yellow cards during the game. The FFF expressed full support for Mbappe and all victims of hateful remarks, emphasizing that the French national team represents France itself.
