Man Utd Transfer Targets: Two Midfielders Needed Says Neville

Gary Neville has warned Manchester United they need at least two top central midfielders this summer, calling the position a 'problem' that must be solved before Champions League football resumes. United secured a 3-1 win over Aston Villa to cement third place, but Neville says their current midfield pairing of Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro won't survive the demands of multiple competitions.

Neville specifically called for one positional midfielder and one 'destroyer' to join the squad, noting that Casemiro will leave and Manuel Ugarte may also depart. The former United defender praised Mainoo's potential but said the current options beyond him are insufficient. United are targeting players like Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Brighton's Carlos Baleba.

While midfield is the priority, Neville also highlighted defensive concerns, particularly regarding the fitness of Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, and left-back Luke Shaw. He questioned whether Shaw can maintain his form playing 55-60 games next season. Despite Casemiro's recent renaissance, Neville believes United are right to let the Brazilian leave, calling his current spell a 'cameo' at the end of his career.
