Sunderland will feel hard done by after dominating possession and creating the better chances throughout the match. Noah Sadiki and Brian Brobbey both went close, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens producing several excellent saves. Enzo Le Fee orchestrated much of Sunderland's attacking play with neat one-touch passes. United made five changes from the side that beat Liverpool, with Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount starting while Casemiro missed out through injury.

Granit Xhaka urged his Sunderland teammates to stay humble despite their impressive display against a top-four side. The midfielder acknowledged the team created numerous opportunities against quality opposition and emphasized the importance of maintaining perspective after promotion. United need just one point from their final two matches to secure third place.
