A 56-year-old man has been arrested following racist abuse directed at Wigan Warriors player Junior Nsemba after the team's 16-14 victory over St Helens at the Magic Weekend in Liverpool. The abuse reportedly appeared on social media, prompting Wigan to report the incident to the police.

Officers from Wigan's Neighbourhood Tasking Team made the arrest on Friday morning on suspicion of a racially aggravated malicious communication offence. The individual remains in custody for interview. Both Wigan Warriors and St Helens RLFC have supported the investigation.

Wigan Warriors issued a statement condemning the remarks and emphasizing their zero-tolerance approach to racism. The Rugby Football League also released a statement denouncing the "abhorrent remarks" and offering full support to Nsemba, adding they are working with clubs and police to ensure the matter is handled thoroughly.
