Man City's Semenyo Latest Player Facing Racial Abuse

Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo has publicly drawn attention to receiving further instances of racial abuse directed at him during the current season. His experience adds to a distressing pattern emerging across the Premier League, indicating persistent issues within fan behaviour that authorities are struggling to contain.

Semenyo’s case arrives amid an ongoing investigation by the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU). That unit is currently examining abuse aimed at four players over a single weekend in February, including Lutsharel Geertruida and Hannibal Mejbri.

Those February incidents involved players from Sunderland, Burnley, Chelsea, and Wolves, showing the problem spans multiple clubs and player demographics. Just recently, Sunderland also condemned racist abuse aimed at striker Brian Brobbey following a recent 1-0 victory over Tottenham.

These repeated incidents prove that condemnations alone do little to deter offenders targeting players online. The frequency of these reports suggests current measures designed to protect athletes are proving insufficient against widespread discriminatory conduct.
