Tottenham defender Kevin Danso has spoken out about the racist abuse he received during the Premier League's No Room For Racism campaign in April, saying he refuses to let it define him. The Austria international, who joined Tottenham permanently from Lens in May 2025 after a previous spell with Augsburg, explained how he processes the discrimination.

Danso opened up about growing up in Austria, describing himself as having "faced racism quite a bit" while living in a "predominantly white country." However, he emphasized that he has learned to manage its impact. "I just try to not let it have as much of an effect on me and how I feel about myself and my performance in order to continue to play at a very high level," he stated. "It just doesn't define me and it doesn't belong in the world of football."

The Premier League has taken a strong stance against discriminatory abuse, asserting that such behavior has "absolutely no place in football or wider society." The league acknowledged that more needs to be done and pledged to work alongside clubs, football bodies, law enforcement, and social media companies to address the issue. Recent incidents include an Everton fan's arrest for allegedly abusing Antoine Semenyo during a match against Manchester City, and a 47-year-old man previously charged for similar abuse directed at Semenyo when he played for Bournemouth earlier this season.

The problem extends beyond individual matches. Four players were targeted during a single weekend in February, with the UK Football Policing Unit investigating abuse directed at Sunderland defender Lutsharel Geertruida, Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana, and Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare.
