Jockey Jim Crowley has called time on his illustrious riding career after failing to recover sufficiently from a serious injury suffered at York in September. After undergoing multiple operations on his pelvis and legs, the 48-year-old has decided to transition into a new career as a trainer.

Crowley rose to prominence on the Flat, becoming champion jockey in 2016 and serving as the retained rider for Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud. He rode legendary champions including Baaeed, arguably the best miler since Frankel, and the elite sprinter Battaash.

Reflecting on his career, Crowley expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by the Maktoum family. Having already completed his modules, he plans to apply for his training licence and hopes to set up his own operation over the winter ahead of next season.
