Legendary jockey Jim Crowley faces a setback in his return to racing after a tendon issue in his leg forced him to postpone his comeback from a broken leg and pelvis. The 47-year-old, famous for his rides in the Shadwell colours, was initially aiming to return this summer in time for the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting. Speaking to Sky Sports Racing, Crowley revealed the tendon problem required additional surgery on March 11th, pushing his return back by about a month. He stated he's now on crutches but can weight bear, emphasizing the need for the procedure despite the delay.

Crowley's recovery path has been fraught with challenges. His initial injury occurred in a serious fall at York in September last year when his mount Almeraq came down in the Garrowby Stakes. This was followed by another significant delay for jockey Trevor Whelan, who also suffered a broken leg and required further surgery, highlighting the precarious nature of the sport. Crowley's return has now been further complicated by the tendon issue, adding another hurdle to his rehabilitation journey.

While Crowley doesn't have a definitive return date yet, he remains hopeful of being back by the end of May, aiming to make his comeback in time for Royal Ascot. The jockey stressed he is doing everything possible to achieve this goal, acknowledging the setback but expressing confidence in a full recovery. His ability to return to the saddle before the summer's biggest event remains uncertain but is a key focus for his camp and fans eagerly awaiting his return to the track.
