JJ Spaun secured his maiden DP World Tour title at the BMW PGA Championship after outlasting a packed leaderboard at Wentworth on Sunday. The American finished two strokes clear after Manuel Elvira stumbled on the 18th, missing a birdie opportunity that would have forced a playoff. Spaun closed with a 67 to finish at 17 under par.

Elvira, ranked 294th in the Official World Golf Rankings, needed a birdie on the final hole to claim his first DP World Tour victory but found a fairway bunker with his tee shot and double-bogeyed. He tied Rory McIlroy, Aaron Rai, and Adam Scott at 15 under for second place.

McIlroy produced a late surge, making birdies on holes 12, 14, and 17 to card a final-round 68. Ryan Fox joined Matt Fitzpatrick, Joost Luiten, and Filippo Celli tied for sixth at 14 under. Spaun, who was omitted from Brandt Snedeker's Team USA Presidents Cup squad, said he played with a "huge chip on my shoulder" and felt he had "taken care of business this week."

Thirteen players finished within three shots of the lead, highlighting the competitive nature of the final round.
