Spaun Wins Valero Texas Open After MacIntyre Misses Playoff

JJ Spaun claimed his second Valero Texas Open title with a remarkable Sunday surge at TPC San Antonio. The 2025 US Open champion fired a five-under-par 67, making three birdies and an eagle on his back nine to finish at 17 under, one shot clear of Robert MacIntyre and Matt Wallace, who shared second place.

MacIntyre, who had led for most of the tournament, saw his hopes fade with an errant second shot at the 18th hole. The Scot left himself 30 feet short with a bogey, missing a birdie attempt that would have forced a playoff after starting the final round with nine straight pars as he slipped three shots off the pace.

Spaun's victory marked a significant turnaround for the American, who had not finished inside the top 20 in seven PGA Tour starts this year. The Oakmont winner acknowledged the pressure he put on himself following his major triumph last season, revealing he had worked to "free myself up and put less pressure on myself" in recent weeks.
