Jack Draper in tears amid injury concern

Jack Draper was visibly emotional and in tears during his defeat to Terence Atmane in Montreal, as a long-standing arm injury appeared to impact his performance on his return to action.

Playing in only his sixth tournament of the year, Draper lost 6-3 2-6 6-2 to France's Atmane. After a slow start, Draper seemed to find his rhythm in the second set, but his game faltered significantly in the decider, with a noticeable reduction in the power of his serves and groundstrokes.

Trailing 4-1 in the final set, Draper sat down and cried during the changeover. Despite the distress, he continued playing, almost securing a break of serve before Atmane closed out the match. This setback raises doubts about Draper's participation in the upcoming Cincinnati Open and potentially the US Open.

Sky Sports pundit Annabel Croft described the scene as "very upsetting," suggesting the tears were likely linked to his persistent arm injury and the effort required to compete. The injury has hampered Draper, who reached a career-high ranking of No 4 in June 2025, since around that time.
