Jack Draper returns at DC Open after Wimbledon injury

Jack Draper will return to professional tennis at the DC Open starting July 27. The 24-year-old enters the Washington tournament as a wild card after a recurrence of bone bruising in his left arm forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon.

Injury struggles have plagued Draper for over a year. After missing most of the previous season until February, he faced subsequent knee and shoulder issues. He managed only one grass-court event at Eastbourne before the recent arm setback, though he recently added Andy Murray to his coaching staff.

Returning in Washington puts Draper in a high-stakes environment against a field featuring five top 10 players, including Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz. This tournament starts the North American hard-court swing leading toward the US Open in late August.

Missing Wimbledon was a setback, but a return in July prevents a long-term absence. Draper needs consistent match play now to avoid another injury spiral before the final major of the year.
